DIREXIS TGO receives the prestigious Equality in Business Distinction from the Institute of Women.
The recognition has been awarded to 28 new entities, and currently, only a total of 171 companies have this distinction for their gender equality policies among their employees in Spain.
It is one of the first passenger transport companies at the national level to hold this distinction, being a pioneer in Catalonia.
DIREXIS TGO, a leading company in the passenger transport sector, has been one of the 28 new companies honored with the prestigious Equality in Business Distinction (DIE), granted by the Institute of Women, which is part of the Ministry of Equality. This recognition aims to reflect the entity’s ongoing commitment to gender equality and promoting diversity in the workplace. This is achieved by studying the implementation of equality plans and measures in areas such as access to employment, working conditions, including work-life balance measures, gender-focused compensation policies, inclusive communication, organizational model aspects, and Corporate Social Responsibility, among many other areas of action.
“I have worked in the mobility and transport industry for 38 years and can affirm that it is a sector traditionally dominated by men. Currently, nearly 34% of our workforce is made up of women. Therefore, at DIREXIS TGO, we have prioritized the implementation of innovative policies and practices to foster inclusion and gender equity,” comments Carme Pros, CEO of DIREXIS TGO. “At the entity, we firmly believe in equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender. This recognition not only celebrates our past efforts but also motivates us to continue pushing forward, tirelessly working to create an inclusive and equitable work environment,” she adds.
In the dynamic corporate landscape today, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) have become essential elements. These concepts play a fundamental role in improving talent retention and addressing common challenges faced by Spanish companies, such as mental health care and burnout reduction. Furthermore, organizations that adopt and promote these values are not only more innovative and productive but also demonstrate a greater commitment to both their clients and collaborators.
37% of the Spanish population surveyed in the recent People at Work 2023 study reports that their company has improved in DEI compared to the previous three years. This shows that there is still a long way to go on this issue. The same report states that Europe enjoys an enviable status as an attractive continent for working, although in some key aspects such as salary increases and DEI, employers are less generous or progressive than in other regions of the world.
The Equality in Business Distinction, regulated under Royal Decree 1615/2009 of October 26, is the only public recognition at the national level and is awarded by the Ministry of Equality to companies that adopt effective policies and actions to promote gender equality and combat discrimination in the workplace. DIREXIS TGO has been recognized not only for having a woman leading the company but also for implementing programs that support the professional development and well-being of all individuals within the organization. Furthermore, it is important to note that it is the only public distinction at the national level, and to date, only 171 companies have had this distinction since 2010.
“At DIREXIS TGO, we have taken several measures to foster progress and inclusion within the company,” specifies Carme Pros. “Some examples are the implementation of an equality plan and a protocol against harassment within the organization; flexible work measures to facilitate work-life balance; we conduct awareness and training sessions in diversity and inclusion for all staff; and we also have continuous training programs on equality and diversity, aimed at all levels of the team,” Pros elaborates.
Once the DIE is obtained, companies retain their title for a period of 3 years. During this time, they must maintain and demonstrate their level of excellence in equality, with the option to request an extension if desired. As a result, the company commits to conducting periodic internal audits to evaluate the effectiveness of these policies, allowing for continuous adjustments to achieve positive and sustainable gender equality results.
“Achieving this distinction is a significant milestone for DIREXIS TGO, as it goes beyond recognition. It is a firm step toward making the transport sector more diverse, equitable, and innovative. We are proud to be one of the few transport companies to hold this distinction, but at the same time, we invite many more to join and contribute to what should undoubtedly be a common goal,” concludes the expert. Additionally, these organizations will join the DIE Business Network, a space designed to facilitate the exchange of experiences and best practices related to equal treatment and opportunities between women and men in the workplace. The purpose of this network is to share knowledge and promote initiatives that foster equality and disseminate these practices throughout society. After the latest call, the DIE Network currently has a total of 171 members.
